Knowledge, Attitude and Practices for Oral Health among Industrial Employees

Abstract
A survey using a questionnaire was conducted among industrial employees in Ulsan and Pusan. Total surveyed persons was 998 from high teenagers to sixties, 714 males and 284 females. Of the respondents 93.6% were classified to blue collar workers and of the respondents 6.4% were white collar workers. The authors assessed their toothbrushing, use of fluoride dentifrice, self-evaluation of their oral health and opinions about periodical oral examination.
Mean toothbrushing frequency was 2.8 times per day. Toothbrushing frequency per day was relatively higher among females and younger generation than males and older generation respectively. Of the: respondents 40.8% recognized fluoride to be effective on the prevention of dental caries. Of the respondents 74.5% were judged to use fluoride dentifrice at daily toothbrushing by the brand which they wrote down on the questionnaire. The real use of fluoride dentifrice didn¢¥t statistically correlate with their statements about containing fluoride in dentifrice. Of the respondents 37.6% reported that they felt to need curative dental treatments. Of the respondents 83.4% agreed on the need of periodical oral examination.
In summary, these data indicate that there is a high consensus of periodical oral examination among industrial employees, whereas they didn¢¥t have accurate knowledge about prevention of oral diseases. The authors suggest that oral health care programme should be developed at the industries for the prevention and early treatments of oral diseases among employees.
